*About Me*

My name is Andrea Garcia and I am from Middlesex, a small town in central New Jersey. Currently I'm a freshman at Rider University. I am double majoring in Secondary Education and English, with a concentration in writing. I am in the Baccalaureate Honors Program here at Rider, and last semester I made the Deans’ List with a GPA of 3.52. My good academic standing has also earned me a place in Alpha Lambda Delta, Rider's Honor Society.

I have wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little girl. After I graduate from Rider I plan to get a job as a high school English teacher. I have been involved with teaching experiences since my freshman year of high school. In high school I Child Development and Child Care Professional and in both classes we observed and taught children between the ages of 3 and 5. My senior year of high school, I worked as a teacher's aide at My Very Own School, a preschool in my town. There I did everything from teaching and playing with the kids, to planning out projects, to cleaning the tables after the kids were done coloring. I also worked at the Middlesex Summer Camp last summer. There, I was a camp aide, which meant I supervised children between the ages of 5 and 13, and engaged them in recreational as well as arts and crafts activities.

Although most of my teaching experience has been with young children, I want to teach older students. I think the skills and qualities I have developed while caring for younger children will definitely help me run a high school class. In high school I was involved in Student Council, Honor Society, Varsity Softball, and the school Newspaper. Now at Rider I am a member of the Student Education Association, Gay Straight Alliance, the Food Committees, Emerging Leaders, and I participate in various community service activities on campus.
